REVIEW: Platitude - Nine Scarlet Records, 2004
7/10
Platitude - Nine - cover art A band with seven members is not that uncommon when we're talking gothic / doom metal but Platitude is a Swedish neo-classical power metal band and I don't know if there is any other relatively well-known band in this genre with so many members. This could be both a good and a bad thing I guess but they seem to be able to work well together because on this album they show a very coherent and tight appearance. Bearing in mind that these guys are only in the ages of 18 to 24 it makes it even more impressive and I even dare to say that Platitude is one of the biggest hopes for Swedish power metal at the moment. There is a lot of both energy, passion and thought put into each and every one of these eleven songs and it is very hard to pick a favorite. They still lack a little in variety but I guess that will come naturally within time. The vocals are very well done and I trace a little of Geoff Tate in there even though the depth and operatic power is missing. If you like the more commercial side of Queensrÿche, Rainbow's early work and Yngwie Malmsteen then Platitude could go well with you.
