REVIEW: Poema Arcanvs - Iconoclast Aftermath Music, 2002
5/10
Poema Arcanvs - Iconoclast - cover art South America has brought the world several very good metal bands like Criminal from Chile and Brazilian bands like Angra and Sepultura. When I sat down to listen to this album from the Chilean band Poeam Arcanvs I hoped for something interesting and fresh but unfortunately I set my hopes up too high and was quickly taken down. I never expected something like a new Sepultura but it is kind of exotic when you get to hear bands like this one. South American bands are known to play mostly extreme death metal but this time I was given the chance to listen to something as unusual as atmospheric doom metal from Santiago. It wasn't an unpleasant experience at all and the music is sometimes even slightly impressive but this album is too bleak and unstructured to leave me satisfied. I have listened to a lot of music throughout the years and I may be hard to impress on by now but I think it is necessary to demand high quality music from the bands today when the competition is enormous. We are practically drowning in music today and this is definitely not one of the highlights of the year. If you enjoy mellow atmosperic metal with deep wailing vocals and don't mind a harsh edge then you might still want to give it a try but it doesn't do that much for me.
