After several years of being the frontman for Finland's Sentenced, Ville Laihiala felt that it was time to explore his skills as a guitarist, an instrument ha had handled on the side for seventeen years already. The result was Shadowlands, later known as Poisonblack, a band that he formed with friends from his hometown who he had played with before in different local bands. On vocals we have the frontman of Charon - Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto - who has since left Poisonblack in order to focus on his other band. Many of you probably ask this question now if we really need more gothic metal bands? Well, not really but if they sound like this the answer is definitely yes. Slow, heavy rhythms, subtle melancholic melodies and the deep passionate vocals from Juha-Pekka work together in making this an album very rich in emotions, something that characterizes a good gothic release. Compared to most other bands in the genre Poisonlack have a heavier, sharper and, above all, cleaner sound which I highly appreciate. They do not really follow in the footsteps of others but rather focus on creating something with their own fingerprint on it. Sure, that is what most serious bands aim for but there are not many who succeed. Songs like "Love Infernal", "The Exciter" and "With Her I Die" will make you love this album right away.
