REVIEW: Portal - Forthcoming Cadla Communications, 2001
7.5/10
Portal - Forthcoming - cover art From Västervik on the East coast of Sweden hails a rather new death metal act named Portal. The band was formed in late 1997 as a black / death metal hybrid but since then they have evolved in the deadlier direction, leaving the blacker part behind them (the vocals are still rather black though). Even though they are a very brutal band their music is also very melodic which makes them so much more interesting than a lot of other bands who rely heavily on being as brutal or evil as possible. Portal has had a lot of problems in their early days when they were let down by Invasion Records after signing a multi album deal but now they are ready to show the world what they are capable of achieving. Widda at Cadla Communications is very proud of this release and he should be so because these Swedes have produced a great contribution to the extreme music underground. This is far from commercial, it is not a Century Media or Nuclear Blast release but it is a high quality album. What I like about this album is that you can really feel the metal spirit when listening to it and that is very rare these days.
