REVIEW: Potential Threat S.F. - 2.0 EP Self-financed, 2005
6.5/10
Potential Threat S.F. - 2.0 EP - cover art The boys from San Francisco are back. Three years have passed since they recorded their eponymous debut/demo and this time around the band has a new sound, perhaps not only courtesy of a new producer. Oh, they've not reinvented the wheel as they still play a similar brand of west coast Thrash/Hardcore as on the debut, but the production has eliminated many remnants of the previously addressed Prong/Helmet vibe. A similitude to late-80s Anthrax abounds instead, while the vocals still invoke Hetfield and Flynn.

What has changed, though, is the band's approach to song structure and vocals. It sounds as if the guys were really going for a catchy feel as more than just a hint of melody and some real singing appear within the first song alone. If a singular, representative comparison had to be made, Biohazard would be it, first and foremost. Not mentioned in the review for the debut was a debt to Suicidal Tendencies. It's still here in 2005 and that's okay, too.

This release won't change the world but I bet Potential Threat SF puts on a live show worth seeing. “2.0 EP” is available at the band’s site for $5, postage paid in the U.S. ($1 more for the rest of the world). Check 'em out. The threat grows more real every day.
