German heavy metallers Powergod continue to dig out the history vault of metal with their second collection of covers of classic 80s songs. This time they have revitalized wonderful creations from Exciter, Raven, Hirax, Wendy O Williams, Anvil, Rough Cutt and Tank among others. Several songs also feature guest appearances from original band members as well as a few other select individuals such as Sodom frontman Tom Angelripper (Powergod guitarist Riff Randall was actually a member of Sodom for several years in the early 90s). Exactly as was the case with their first covers album the focus lies on the speed / thrash side of the heavy metal spectrum. Most covers are as usual very well performed and the vocals from Alexander Koch suit almost every metal song like a whip in the hand of a dominatrix, or at least so it seems. He possesses a decent range and has a very deep and powerful sound pouring out of his mouth. The only cover that kind of disappointed me was their version of Destruction's "Total Desaster". If you have ever heard Vader perform the old German thrash classic then the Powergod take will seem quite pale by comparison. Other than that "Long Live The Loud" is a very entertaining album indeed that will serve as the second history lesson for younger metal fans who don't already know about these bands who all played important roles in the history of metal.
