REVIEW: Primordial - Storm Before Calm Hammerheart Records, 2002
7.5/10
Primordial - Storm Before Calm - cover art When a band has made a name of themselves, such as Irish Primordial has done, it is natural to have expectations to their fourth album "Storm Before Calm". I've never really enjoyed the band before, but with "Storm Before Calm" I see a bright horizon. I guess they are doing their own thing, with their own sound, and that makes their epic (black) metal so enjoyable. They are heavy when they need to be, they are melodic where it fits, and they variate enough through these 7 quite long songs to make the album stand out of the crowd as a good one. The clean vocals and the harmonic parts is probably what makes this album so different, and it makes the band recognizeable from how they sound and perform. Their Academy Studios recording has also done the band good, it is well produced, and their sound really has the nescessary touch for their style. I suppose there isn't really much more to say! Primordial has done a good album here, that is better than what I expected it to be! Favourite track to end it: The epic "Hosting of the Sidhe".
