REVIEW: Process Of Guilt - Demising Grace Self-financed, 2004
7/10
Process Of Guilt - Demising Grace - cover art This Portuguese band seems to have had a certain presence and exposure in the specialized media, so I was eager to behold what things offered through their music in his release. Well, “Demising Grace” is a correct album, where everything is in the right place, and the patterns of the songs are well managed and structured. Many bands come to mind when hearing these tracks, so I can´t speak about a particular influence. As a whole, one could define Process Of Guilt as doom death metal, without any kind of doubt, and everyone would be satisfied with this description. You know, here you can appreciate the classic growlings, mellow parts intertwined with distorted chords, double bass drums painting the rhythmic background, melancholic melodies every now and then... Echoes come mainly from the legends of the genre, though Opethesque touches appear, too. The songs flow easily and the technical performance is flawless. However, my jab hasn´t hit the ground with this album, honestly. The music itself is not appealing enough to make this album a killer. Listening to it several times, the sensation doesn´t change too much. I´m being a bit demanding perhaps, but this is the way I feel. Technical skills and good productions aren´t enough nowadays. Inspiration is missing, great songs are scarce. Despite this lack of virtuoso songmaking, this band is much better than most of the doom bands which can be found nowadays in the scene. Any doom fan will enjoy “Demising Grace” with no problem. By the way, nice overall effort to be just the second demo from the band–this CD is self-produced, it´s got a good design and website is well done!
