Having gathered force for three years Pungent Stench are ready once more to administer shock treatment to the world. Tasteless imagery and provocative lyrics have made people either hate or love the Austrian band and they do not surrender to censorship. Having an image like that will easily remove focus from the music itself which is a danger of course but it also attracts people who have never heard of the band before. As a marketing tool it is very powerful indeed. Founding member and band mastermind Martin Schirenc is now joined by long-time companion Alex Wank and new bassist Fabio Testi. Behind the grotesque imagery always lies a sense of black humour which is what Pungent Stench is all about. "Ampeauty" will certainly not be appreciated by everyone but if you're a fan of the band from before it will suite your taste I am sure. Musically there has been some development since the reunion debut "Masters Of Moral, Servants Of Sin". This time there is more of stoner rock vibe to their brutal death metal which adds a plesant groove to many of the songs, leaning slightly towards the Entombed sound. Lyrically the theme has also shifted from the Catholic Church concept of the last album to an amputation theme. Tasteless? Unappropriate? Well, that is what Pungent Stench is about. If you take them seriously then you have only yourself to blame. I was not a big fan of the previous album but now the veterans are back to their old shape. Let the blade cut through.
