REVIEW: Pyramid - Gaudis Legacy Locomotive Music, 2002
7.5/10
Pyramid - Gaudis Legacy - cover art "Gaudi's Legacy" is the third album from Pyramid, one of the most important Spanish metal bands at the moment. Based in Barcelona they have dedicated this album to a prominent ex-citizen of their home towm namely Antonio Gaudi (1852-1926) who was an architect and the innovative leader of the Spanish Art Nouveau movement. Although I am not a big fan of this style I must admit that he was extremely talented and designed some very important buildings. The members of Pyramid are also talented in their own art form of choice namely progressive metal. When listening to this album you can find similarities with great bands of the genre like Dream Theater, Symphony X and Liquid Tension Experiment but there are also some guitar solo work that should appeal to fans of modern day guitar heroes like Vai and Satriani. You can find plenty of instrumental sections but the vocals done by Javier Cespedes are good and solid even if they sometimes are a little annoying as well thanks to his high-pitch screams. Overall this is still a very good progressive metal album from a mature and talented band that all of you prog worshippers out there should remember from now on if you don't know about them already. Perhaps they could have shortened it by fifteen minutes or so but after all this is progressive. Exceptionally ugly album cover but having seen their previous releases I can't say it was a surprise. By the way, check out the jazzy intro of "Sister Sona".
