This is a classic album
and even though I was only 8 years old when it was released it is one of my
favorite albums all-time. Queensryche recorded a demo in 1982 that resulted in
a seven record deal with EMI. This record deal was not a good thing for the
band I think since the security of knowing that they already have the deal has
made them lose their edge to become a plain pop/rock band during the second
half of the 90's. This album was released back in the good old days of the
band though when they still had some aggression, rhythm, provocative lyrics
and top-notch vocals. The vocalist Geoff Tate has one of the most
extraordinary voices in the metal world and should be included among names
like Bruce Dickinson, Hansi Kürsch, James Labrie and James Hetfield. He was
once trained in opera but chose to sing hard rock or metal since it offered
him a great deal more freedom to do what he wanted and he definitely made the
right choice! There is not one single bad track on this album and there is not
much to say about it but the fact that it is close to being perfect. Heavy
guitar riffs, enchanting melodies and some of the best vocals there is to get.
This album is an important milestone in the history of metal and if your
record collection is missing it you had better get it right away. It can not
disappoint you! Choir and cellos were conducted by the well-known Michael
Kamen (Metallica).
