REVIEW: Rage - Unity Steamhammer Records, 2002
9/10
Rage - Unity - cover art I was very disappointed with the previous album from the German heavy metal masters of Rage but now they have finally found the right track again and a new label since they are now signed to Steamhammer Records (a division of the major German distributor SPV). This album is nothing short of wonderful and the riffs are as heavy and exciting as they once used to be. This is the way heavy metal is meant to sound like and I'm very happy to see that a band like Rage, who have been with us since the early 80's (only Peavy is left from the original line-up but still...), are still able to produce world-class metal that will surely make every metal fan in the world happy. This time the band have also taken use of two well-known background musicians namely Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian and DC Cooper of Silent Force. Another most welcome addition to this album is the powerful choir vocals of "Dies Irae". The less exciting cover art was done by Joachim Luetke. Rage is yet again one of the best German bands and I hope this is not the last thing we here from them. This is one of the highlights of the year if you like straight-forward heavy metal. The only thing I don't enjoy that much is some of the vocals which are a little too eye-soaring for my taste. Welcome back Peavy!
