REVIEW: Rage - Welcome To The Other Side GUN Records, 2001
7/10
Rage - Welcome To The Other Side - cover art There are still some big names from the 80's around in the metal world and Rage is one of them. This is the fourteenth full-length album from the band and they are still as popular as before, very much thanks to the new power metal wave in Europe. Peavy Wagner has now found two new musicians for his band: Victor Smolski and Mike Terrana, who has played with stars like Yngwie Malmsteen. No matter how good musicians they are the music they´re producing don´t impress me too much. It´s not bad in any way but it´s lacking a little to be the very best. Melodic power metal is what you will get from Rage but you will be spared from the high-pitch vocals that are so common among the European power metal bands of today. That way Rage stands out from the rest of the German bands. There are several slow ballads on this album also and four orchestrated ones that brings it down a little. Otherwise the vocals are the strength of Rage music, not so much because of the voice of Wagner but more for the nice melodies. Perhaps not an album of the year candidate but Rage fans will not be disappointed with these seventeen tracks.
