REVIEW: Rain Fell Within - Refuge Dark Symphonies, 2002
8.5/10
Rain Fell Within - Refuge - cover art If you want to enjoy atmospheric and ethereal metal that touches the innermost confines of your soul you should check out all releases from the American label Dark Symphonies. Rain Fell Within released their debut album "Believe" in January 2000 and that album has so far sold more than 7000 copies which is very good for a metal band and especially a newcomer band. Melancholic love metal is the name I just came up with to describe their music and I think it suits them pretty well. Melancholy and beauty are two of the predominant feelings that the band has managed to capture in their music. The problem with a band like Rain Fell Within is that their music is too avantgarde and experimental for the mainstream crowd who find it hard to appreciate originality and they are too soft for the general metal audience. This is a shame because a band like this deserves a whole lot more attention. They have managed to take the best out of the sound from bands like Anathema, The Gathering, Trail Of Tears and old 3rd And The Mortal and made their very own mix of atmospheric metal. The vocalist Dawn also has one of the most beautiful voices I have heard so far. A very fine follow-up to "Believe"! The only thing I would like them to improve next time is the production. This is beauty transformed into music.
