REVIEW: Raise Hell - Wicked Is My Game Nuclear Blast, 2002
8.5/10
Raise Hell - Wicked Is My Game - cover art "Wicked Is My Game" is the third album from Swedish thrashers Raise Hell, featuring former Sins Of Omission members Jonas Nilsson and Dennis Ekdahl among others. Even more melodic than before these Swedes deliver one of the finer thrash metal albums of the new millenium so far. The production is crystal clear, the guitars are loud as hell, the vocals are top-notch growls similar to what Dimmu Borgir sounded like on "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia" and there is not one single song that doesn't have a pure and heavy beat to bang your head to. The music itself isn't really that complex but that doesn't matter because Raise Hell bring us some of the most hard hitting metal riffs we have heard in a long time. Unlike most of their Swedish peers who mix thrash and death metal into one dense mixture the music of Raise Hell is built on clean straightforward riffs and simple efficient melodies. They have found their own style and the only band that I can think of right now who have a somewhat similar sound is the German band Dark Age. If you are a fan of well made thrash metal then Raise Hell is a name you should remember from now on.
