REVIEW: Rakoth - Jabberworks Code666, 2001
9/10
Rakoth - Jabberworks - cover art When reviewing the debut album "Planeshift" from the Russians of Rakoth I generously hailed the band as one of the most innovative bands ever and I still hold on to that opinion after having listened to their follow-up "Jabberworks". This time they have also enlisted the "Russian Grotesque Live Orchestra" which makes this album more powerful and varied than their previous one. The band has developed in every single aspect - the unique vocals are stronger, the song structures are more complex, the production is better etc. The Rakoth sound is still the same though and with their unique blend of black metal, folk music and orchestral music they have once again managed to entrance me with their flutes and beautiful tales. The true innovators are not always found where expected and Rakoth is one of the most exciting newcomers on the metal scene at the moment. They have recently been picked up by Earache's new sublabel Elitist Records and there is a lot more amazing ground-breaking music to come in the 21st century, that's one thing we can take for granted. This is music, this is beautiful, this is true art.
