REVIEW: Rammstein - Reise, Reise Universal Music, 2004
9/10
Rammstein - Reise, Reise - cover art After three years of silence they are back with a new album and this time many will be dissapointed; more organic, less machines. With "Reise, Reise" Rammstein has taken two steps forward and then three steps backward. There's less of everything, the songs are no longer bound to one heavy riff and monotome beat. The two first singles ("Mein Teil" and "Amerika") are the two songs on the album containing most guitars so I guess the Record label choosed them to not scare the old fans away. Even if it's different, it's still Rammstein eventhough they have evolved into a more organic band. The singing sounds better than ever (maybe because of the guitars wich is lower tuned than before) and Till Lindemann actually manage to sing a ballad with his deep voice. Another thing that's still present is the red line trough the songs: love in all forms and shapes (Big animals and cannibalism for example). Describing this album is not an easy job, the songs point in different diections, stretching from the mighty "Reise Reise" to heavy "Mein Teil" to blues inspired "Los". Many Hardcore fans are very likely to hate "Reise, Reise" right from the start, saying that Rammstein gone whimpy but I think that they showed the world that thay are capable of more than just doing one thing and that they are truly good muscians. I can't wait to see Rammstein perform this album live, the question is wether they will be doing a new bombastic show or choosed to tune it down aswell. Eventhough it's different I really fell that i can recommend this album to all of you out there, this is without a doubt one of the years biggest "must buy".
