‘Not another pop band from Liverpool’ was the first thought in my head when I recived Rebbecas ‘Halfway In Love’ – debut single. Expecting yet another The Coral clone, I was a bit surprised when the title track with it’s theatrical sound more than anything makes one think of Doves with a touch of Suede. ‘Halfway In Love’ grows a little for every time you listen to it and after giving the song some time I was humming the refrain. The emotional ‘When Thoughts Lead To Emptiness’ is an acoustic number that is just a little to much. The added synths and the singers tormented voice makes the track cross the fine line between beeing moving and just beeing pathetic. The records highlight is the second track ‘When Thoughts Lead To Emptiness’. With it’s varying tempos, dynamics and tasteful piano it is clearly influensed by Muse, but Rebbeca manage to put an own sound to it. ‘Halfway In Love’ is an okay debut single but it is nothing that we haven’t already heard already and exept ‘When Thoughts Lead To Emptiness’ it’s a little boring.
