REVIEW: Reckless Tide - Repent Or Seal Your Fate Armageddon Music, 2005
8/10
Reckless Tide - Repent Or Seal Your Fate - cover art The German thrash metal act Reckless Tide was formed in Hannover in 2002. Two demo cds caught the attention of Armageddon Music who decided to release their debut album. A good choice I must say because this is a young band who shows a huge potential for the future. The album opens with "Desperation" which is in my opinion also the best song found here with wonderful thrashing guitar riffs and a nice little melody. Reckless Tide is quite unusual in the way that they have two vocalists, one handling the dark, aggressive vocals while the other takes care of the lighter, cleaner ones, sometimes giving off Mercenary-like shouts. It is the modern way to go but this is not a band who reminds the listener that much of the Swedish death / thrash metal acts. Instead their music is more based on classic Bay Area thrash and they sometimes make me think slightly of Machine Head's debut album although this one is far less metalcore-ish. What is a quality thrash metal release today without the guest appearance of Jeff Waters? He can of course be found here as well alongside Holy Moses' metal queen Sabina Classen whose brother Andy mastered the album at Stage One Studios. While my one favorite track "Desperation" is one of the faster ones, the other one - "The Hunt" - is the slowest but it has such a charming melody that you can't resist it, kind of a thrash metal version of Candlemass. "Repent Or Seal Your Fate" is no doubt one of the finer debut albums you will be able to find this year.
