REVIEW: Reclusion - Shell Of Pain Listenable Records, 2001
8/10
Reclusion - Shell Of Pain - cover art Reclusion is one of the latest Swedish bands in a long row of death/thrash metal outfits that have come out of the country during the last couple of years. The band was formed in 1998 and were supposed to have released an album through the Swedish label Loud 'n Prod Records in the year 2000 but since that label had some problems and have since vanished it did not happen. Now they have instead signed with the French label Listenable Records and this is their first but certainly not last album release. Their music could very well be described as a mix between older Machine Head and The Haunted who have both released some of the best metal albums ever seen. The vocalist often sounds similar to Marco Aro's way of singing but unfortunately it doesn't quite sound as good. A lot of fans of extreme metal might loathe the slight nu-metal tendencies that can be heard on and off on this album but that's just life I guess... Anyway, this is an album of variety with both aggression and melody, shouting and screaming, speed and atmosphere. Reclusion have released a fine debut album and if you are into The Haunted there is a fair chance you will also be able to enjoy this release as well. There are some incredibly nice riffs to be heard on this album.
