REVIEW: Recueil Morbide - Hurt By Human Race Deadsun Records, 2002
8/10
Recueil Morbide - Hurt By Human Race - cover art If I would have judged this band by their rather light-hearted photo, I would have missed out on some superior extreme metal. Recueil Morbide are one of many recent bands from France who have caused me to think twice about having written off their nation as being as weak in metal as they are in political matters. This album is one big climax of sorts, starting off with "Harmonity", where the riffing of Brazilian death metal meets Schuldiner soloing and searing blast beats. Other influences blend themselves seamlessly into the mix as the tracks fly by, with vocalist Mickey placing his contributions in perfectly. "Embrace" sees Swedish riffing overtop of war metal beats meld into Nile-like sections of utter melodic chaos. Some of the lyrics are in English, some are in French, and the overall impact of the album is that of a sledgehammer. Definitely an album worth obtaining.
