REVIEW: Reign Of Terror - Threnody Of The Impaled Evil Vengeance Records, 2002
9.5/10
Reign Of Terror - Threnody Of The Impaled - cover art When I first heard Reign of Terror’s "Threnody Of The Impaled", this album blew me away, and I can only say that this, their latest CD, reaffirms ROT’s commitment to the dark and heavy sounding death metal they have been writing and recording for the past four years. Ten of the eleven tracks deliver everything die-hard death metal fans thrive on: blasphemous, fast, heavy, brutal Death with lots of doom parts and occult overtones and lyrics. Richard Osmond and Gilbert Sanchez on guitars lay the groundwork for fast and intricate riffing, which CJ Holguin on bass and drummer Marc “The Engine” Arredondo balance with darker, slower moods. CJ not only provides each song with double-bass doom parts, but also tantalizes listeners with deathgrunt vocals that bring the composition into harmony. Arredondo is master of his domain in that he is extremely fast and coordinated, as his precise timing is in harmony with the rapid guitar riffing that poses quite a challenge to keep up with. For fans who are into brutal death "Threnody Of The Impaled" is a must. I highly recommend this album to any true metalhead.
