REVIEW: Repudiate - demo cd Self-financed, 2002
5/10
Repudiate - demo cd - cover art Repudiate is a very young band from France that was formed in March 2001 by three young men who shared the passion for brutal music and also wanted to play together in a band. This cd that I have received is not an official release but contains nine songs that has been recorded by the band since their early days. With guttural vocals and music inspired especially by the Florida death metal scene in the 80's and early 90's they will surely make a lot of you feel nostalgia creeping in under your skin. Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing new and not a single surprise to be found throughout these ten tracks. This doesn't mean that the music sucks though because they are all performed fairly well. The thing that the band lacks is the ability to create something new and not only stick to the old classic sound. Some will surely not have a problem with this but when you have heard the same thing a hundred times over it feels a little bit worn out in the end. Since this is a demo recording the sound quality isn't exactly the best possible either. As things are now I would not offer these young men a record deal quite yet but with practice and new ideas you never know what the future holds. Decent death metal but nothing more and nothing less.
