REVIEW: Resistant - Ancient Future Seventh Generation, 2001
6.5/10
Resistant - Ancient Future - cover art Resistant is one of the metal bands who were around when Roadrunner Records was formed in the late 80's and they are still around. After having released two EP's on Wild Rags and Azra Records they are now about to unleash their debut album on their new label Seventh Generation Records, based in their home-towm of Los Angeles, California, USA. Produced by Schneebi (St. Vitus, Obsessed) this album is packed with a hybrid of punk, metal and tribal rhythms. Sometimes it sounds very interesting indeed, especially in the most atmospheric passages but I am not too fond of the male semi-growling vocals. I also think the album is a little uneven and I would have loved to see the songs more coherent and structured. The concept that Resistant is trying to bring to life is a very exciting one but unfortunately they fail at some point to make it as interesting as it could have been. Still, this is a nice release, especially for fans of Roadrunner recording artists like Slipknot and Machine Head. Even though I might not agree with all the views of Resistant I like it when bands are socially aware like they seem to be. Unfortunately I can't rate this album higher because of that...
