The victorious team of
Luca Turilli and Fabio Lione is back again and with the third full-length
album the victory is finally complete. Lots of bands, many of them also from
Italy like Athena, Labÿrinth and Vision Divine, have tried to walk a similar
musical path but Rhapsody and Luca Turilli are still miles ahead of them. The
composer skills that Luca Turilli is in posession of are exceptional and there
are only a few other metal bands who have succeeded in incorporating classical
interludes in their music. I must mention that Alex Staropoli is also
responsible for the orchestral arrangements on this album. Just like the two
previous albums from the band this one is composed the same way with a
majestic opening intro and a massive final track. As usual the vocal lines and
choir choruses are amazingly well arranged and as usual I must find something
to pick on when I hear an album so close to perfection itself. Except for the
lyrics, which are ridiculously silly for everyone but fantasy fans, Rhapsody
have a tendency to become a little bit cheesy with a movie soundtrack feeling.
I think they should emphasize more on the fantastic vocals heard on "Holy
Thunderforce" and "The Mighty Ride Of The Firelord" as well as the medieval
feeling on "The Village Of Dwarves". More flutes and other classical
instruments and less of the cheesy soundtrack feeling will result in a 10 out
of 10 next time. It is not very difficult to predict the best song on a
Rhapsody album since it is always the final one. If they could record an album
with 5 or 6 of those songs it would easily be the best metal album ever
made.
