Ribspreader is an old-school death metal project that was created by the two Paganizer members Roger Johansson and Andreas Carlsson. The third member of the band is no other than Dan Swanö, a man who turns up in a large number of bands and projects from Sweden. I can't really see the reason why he is in Ribspreader though as he is already part of the similar band Bloodbath. Both these band have in common their love for early 90s Swedish death metal á la Entombed and Dismember. This debut album of Ribspreader is catchy and mid-paced and comes with a very strong production, courtesy of Swanö himself who recorded the album at "The Room". The only thing missing to make it complete is that dirty Sunlight sound but apparently that was not what the band was looking for or, if they were looking for it, they didn't find it. "Boned To The Cross" is a solid death metal album but if you are on the search for something fresh and exciting this is out of the question. If you miss those good old early releases from the Swedish scene Ribspreader is definitely the way to go though. I personally prefer Bloodbath as the song writing on this album does not quite reach the same standard but I am sure some will disagree with me. It's all a matter of different tastes.
