REVIEW: Rob Rock - Holy Hell AFM Records, 2005
7.5/10
Rob Rock - Holy Hell - cover art Rob Rock has been one of the most prominent vocalists on the American Christian hard rock / classic heavy metal scene since the mid 80s. His third solo outing, bearing the contrast filled title "Holy Hell", once more finds Rock collaborating with renowned song writer and producer Roy Z (Judas Priest, Halford, Bruce Dickinson). Instruments are handled by more than capable musicians - the Narnia duo of Carljohan Grimmark and Andreas Olsson with drum tracks courtesy of Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Iced Earth). While listening to these ten songs it becomes very evident that Rob Rock is what this album is all about. The music is pretty much built around standard classic heavy metal riffs and although everything is very well composed the music simply becomes the stage upon which Rob Rock performs. Rob Rock has a very strong voice, wide in range and suited for heavy rock music, and this is indeed a solo album in every aspect of the word but it doesn't quite make for highly memorable songs this time with the exception of the wonderful "I'm A Warrior" where every piece of the puzzle falls right into place. A good and solid release it still is.
