REVIEW: Rob Zombie - The Sinister Urge Geffen Records, 2001
9.5/10
Rob Zombie - The Sinister Urge - cover art Rob Zombie was gaining himself a reputation in the commercial metal world already with his band White Zombie but it is as a solo artist that he has been most successful. The new album "The Sinister Urge" continues the trend of the previous ones with heavy industrial techno-horror metal and his own unique vocals. There is also a little surprise on the album in form of an interesting cover version of the dance hit "Go To California" (I think it was it originally done by 2-Pac and Dr. Dre but I'm not sure). The music is still world-class and straight-forward metal but I would like to see more tracks in the vein of "Scum Of The Earth" and "Iron Head", two of the best tracks he has done so far. "Iron Head" also features some very nice vocals from his dear friend Ozzy Osbourne. The two old men still has a great taste in music and they have been very important in the struggle to keep metal alive in the 1990's even though some narrow-minded people may see them as commercial sell-outs. The music of Rob Zombie has always been very intense and filled to the brim with energy and this is why I enjoy this album so much. One of the highlights of 2001.
