REVIEW: Robert Berry - A Soundtrack For The Wheel Of Time Magna Carta Records, 2001
8/10
Robert Berry - A Soundtrack For The Wheel Of Time - cover art This is an album completely based on the best selling series "The Wheel Of Time" by the author Robert Jordan. This is not like an ordinary movie soundtrack with lots of different artists though since almost all the material was written, produced and performed by Robert Berry but there are also some other musicians appearing: Lief Sorbye (mandolin), Andy Frazier (vocals, guitars), Michael Mullen (violin) and Lisa Bouchelle (vocals). To fit the theme of the album the music is composed as to sound mysterious and majestic. Acoustic instruments such as guitar, violin and mandolin add to the atmosphere with some very nice melodies. No matter how skilled Robert Berry might be as a composer there is a feeling that something is missing on the album. The first songs are great ones but as you wander through the fantasy lands created by Jordan the music looses both passion and focus. It is an interesting and well-composed album but it is in need of some more power that perhaps a man like Christopher Johnson of Therion could have added.
