In the mid 90s, Britain's Cacophonous Records was responsible for releasing albums from well-known extreme metal bands like Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Bal-Sagoth, Gehenna and Sigh. Due to bad management the label disintegrated towards the end of the decade but it has now been revived by the music company Visible Noise who have bought the label. One of the new signings to Cacophonous are Roswell, a band that I know very well as they are actually from my hometown here in Sweden. Roswell is a very nice experience as a live band but unfortunately they don't come to their full rights on their debut album. "Void" combines Swedish style death / thrash riffs with hardcore screams and sludgy hard-hitting drums. If you like The Haunted and At The Gates and would not mind something slower and more hardcore-ish in nature then Roswell is probably something that you could enjoy. "Void" is aggressive, tight, well-played and comes with a massive production thanks to Tommy Tägtgren at the second Abyss Studio. This is an album mainly of interest to hardcore fans but it also has a lot of metallic elements as you hopefully understand by now. Nothing exceptional but well held together and well-played. But as I've mentioned before, Roswell are much more of a live band. However, I do think that this is not an album that should have been released on the Cacophonous label.
