The Rotted, formerly known as Gorerotted are back with new members and a new concept. With the new name, the guys show respect for their former bandmates and the old idea behind the band. They’ve been called The Rotted by friends and fans long before anyway.
The already mentioned new concept, which can be checked out on Get dead or die trying is much more versatile then the old Gorerotted. They remain faithfull to Death/Grind, but this time the Punk and Rock influences can be spotted easily and make the album out-and-out diversified. Already the songtiteles are fun to read, like for example „It’s like there’s a party in my mouth (and everyone’s being sick)“ or „Fear and Loathing in old London Town“. The lyrics turned away from Gore and deal with everyday life. According to the band info they are fractional autobiographical.
Back to the music: It’s very easy to dive into the wall of destruction, because the sound stayed death-metal-like powerful. The Songs are groovy and brutal, just as it should be. Some facts make the album caprious, like for example unexpected tempo changes and breaks. But at the same time the punk influences provide a catchy character.
As well as the songwriting the technical aspect deserves to be praised: Strong drumming, rough screams and growls, interesting bass accents.
The title track „Get dead or die trying“ and „It’s like there’s a party in my mouth“ show black metal-influenced riffing. Maybe this is caused by guitarist Gian Pyres, who played for the gothic/extreme metal band Cradle of Filthand works now for The Rotted.
And the last words of this review shall be: Get dead or die trying - Get it or die trying.
