REVIEW: Runes Order - The Art Of Scare And Sorrow Beyond...Prod, 2002
7/10
Runes Order - The Art Of Scare And Sorrow - cover art Runes Order is an Italian dark ambient project formed by Claudio Dondo in late 1988 and he has already released six albums under this moniker. This is the seventh opus but the first on their new label Beyond...Prod who have decided to pick them up. This album is inspired by the cult movie "The House With Windows That Laugh" by Pupi Avati and the horror movie atmosphere is evident from the first track. So are the industrial influences that take lead from the very beginning. Most of the music is completely instrumental but there are also some distorted vocals done by Argento from Antropofagus / Spite Extreme Wing. A soothing keyboard line is in the background of most songs in order to keep a solid soundwall, fronted by twisted samples and electronic rhythms that should be able to cause some frightened looks in the face of the listener. Italy is one of the strongest nations in Europe right now when it comes to dark, ambient and industrial music and Runes Order have conceived a very interesting and gripping release with "The Art Of Scare And Sorrow". The reasons for Italy having so many good bands within the genre is probably are probably several but I think one very possible explanation is that the country has produced many famous horror movie producers. The music of this album is almost perfect for a horror movie soundtrack too. Recommended for fans of dark ambient music.
