REVIEW: Running Wild - Black Hand Inn Noise Records, 1994
9.5/10
Running Wild - Black Hand Inn - cover art Running Wild was without a doubt one of the best European metal bands during the 80's and 90's and this album shows the band at the top of their career. While being on the downslope today (2002) this album shows a band that has the hunger and energy that a metal band needs - the riffs are heavy, the speed is there and, above all, the traditional beautiful melodies are all there. This is what makes Running Wild so amazing and if you listen to the wonderful title track or the amazing fifteen minute epic "Genesis" which rounds of this album you will immediately fall in love with this band unless you haven't already done so. Just like this album is one of the best the band has conceived during their long career these two tracks are some of the best metal songs that the world has had the joy of hearing. Heavy metal would not have been the same without Rolf Kasparek and without his strong vocals Running Wild would not have been the same either. The band may not have changed their sound very much with each new album but why would you want to change when you have found a winning concept? This is pure metal the way it was meant to be like.
