After the success of the first albums, usually comes the almost mandatory live album. And Running Wild were no exception. “Under Jolly Roger” hit seriously the eighties metal scene and the following promotional tour was the chosen one to record some songs live and put them on LP. Nothing more to say about the story of the “Ready For Boarding” release. Here we have classic songs recorded in front of a wild crowd, giving a special role to the first album. The band was in a gained and deserved momentum and the songs flow without restrictions and plenty of power. Most of the songs are stronger live than in studio (e.g. “Adrian” live version is simply excellent), not in vain Running Wild is a band that has toured extensively. Jens Becker on the bass and Majk Moti on the guitar are the best squires for Rolf in their metallic crusade, and Stefan hits the drums fiercely. Of course Rolf´s voice is not the same than on studio, but somehow he manages to do a good performance of the songs (except for “Raise your fist” when it´s evident that in certain moments he simply cannot make it). The sound of the album is correct (one must remember this dates from 1988), providing the right vibe for the solid heavy metal that these Hamburg guys. That´s the good thing about Running Wild: you always know what you´re going to find when listening to one of their albums. No ornaments or flippant arrangements, just heavy metal at the most rocky expression. An unreleased song, “Purgatory”, is featured in the LP, though it´s dull and boring as hell. I had prefered to listen instead songs as “Victim of states power”, "Fight The Oppression" or “Soldiers of hell”, but just a personal opinion. Besides of that, the intro is also a new song, “Hymn of Long John Silver”, a great instrumental tune to start a gig and prepare the crowd. To close this review: a good live album. Mainly for fans but others could enjoy it too.
