REVIEW: Running Wild - The Brotherhood GUN Records, 2002
7/10
Running Wild - The Brotherhood - cover art Running Wild is one of the oldest metal bands who are still alive today and they are in my book one of the absolute best that have ever been alive. Unfortunately they seem to be on their way down from the top by now since this new album is by far the worst that they have done so far. They recycle old standard riffs, the vocals are mostly uninspiring and the drumming is as machine-like and monotonous as you might imagine from having "Angelo Sasso" in the band. Rolf Kasparek is doing his best to keep the old pirate spirit alive but it appears as if he has lost the will and energy to continue pushing forward. The only song that makes you remember the good old days is the very fine closing track "The Ghost" which is also luckily the longest one on the album. The album is far from being a bad one but this is hopefully not what most people will remember Running Wild for. They have meant a lot to the world of metal and without them this world would not have been the same. We thank you Rolf for what you have done before but perhaps the sad truth is that this will mark the end of an era.
