Sweden's Sabaton is one of the few power metal bands who have presented themselves with a personal and unique sound during the past decade. Their epic and symphonic heavy metal style has won over a multitude of fans of the softer and melodic metal genres since the release of their second album "Primo Victoria" in 2005. Slightly over-pretentious in comparison to their musical ambitions they continue their use of latin album titles with their third album "Attero Dominatus". No surprises are to expect for those who have heard the previous release. Mid-tempo, groovy and melodic heavy metal with a gothic touch with mighty choruses is the successful formula they have decided to stick with. While the songs themselves are mostly simple and straight-forward, the real strength of Sabaton lies in the impressive vocal arrangements and the characteristic deep voice of frontman Joakim Brodén. Recording the album at the well-known Abyss Studios with Tommy Tägtgren is also a clever move in my book as it gives them a sharp sound unlike many other power metal bands. With "Attero Dominatus" they take the next logical step forward in their musical career. A solid and very even release.
