REVIEW: Sacred Steel - Wargods Of Metal Metal Blade Records, 1998
6.5/10
Sacred Steel - Wargods Of Metal - cover art Some bands do everything right - they have the necessary instrumental skills to do almost anything they want, they have the support from a reliable label but they fail when it comes to song writing and originality. The German band Sacred Steel is one of those unlucky ones. "Wargods Of Metal" is in itself a pretty ridiculous title for an album and your thoughts wander straight off to Manowar. The song titles all follow the same pattern and even though I admire Manowar for what they have done for the sake of metal in the past I have never been a big fan of their pre-adolescent lyrical concept. Even though the music of this album is pretty enjoyable and even impressive at times it is too basic and standard power / heavy metal material in the European vein that will do little to raise an eyebrow. It is for sure a heavy album and it even has some progressive touches which is something that I like about it. The biggest problem I have with Sacred Steel is their vocalist. I can't decide on whether I like him or not. His voice is not really made for singing but it still has something special to it. A decent album that could please hardcore Manowar fans but nothing that sticks to my mind for very long.
