REVIEW: Sacriversum - Mozartia Metal Mind Records, 2003
6.5/10
Sacriversum - Mozartia - cover art Sacriversum is one of the oldest Polish metal bands who are still around. The band was formed in the spring of 1992 and after more than a decade of hard work they have grown to also become one of the most successful metal bands on the Polish scene. Sacriversum is more or less a death metal band but that is far from the whole truth. In addition to basic death metal riffing and deep growling vocals there are plenty of progressive and gothic touches, including female vocals by a girl called Kate who have been with the band for about five years now. Unlike many other bands who are labelled gothic metal she doesn't sing with the never so famous angelic or operatic vocals. Instead her way of singing remind more of the Norwegian schizo metal band Dismal Euphony. It is very hard to put a label on the music of Sacriversum and I think it would be wise of you to check them out yourself just to see if it's something for you. Even though this album lacks the musical strength needed to take Sacriversum to the next level in their career I like their unusual lyrical concept. "Mozartia" is, believe it or not, a concept album based on the life and art of a man that you probably have heard of before. If not, then I guess classical music haven't made much of an impression on you.
