Sadorass is the solo project
of a member of the German underground black metal band Frost who started
working on his own material while Frost was put on ice for a short while in
1996. After recording several demos and one 7" EP in 1999 he has now produced
his first full-length album which contains close to an hour of raw primal
black metal with a strong feeling of misanthropy. Sadorass perform ice cold
metal with harsh vocals and they seem to be musically inspired by bands like
Burzum and Darkthrone, thus trying to preserve the original black metal sound
that was invented in the late 80's and early 90's in Norway. The guitars are
distorted to their limits and the vocals are as tormented as possible which
makes this album less accessible to the masses but it was never their
intention to appeal to the masses. The production is of course the worst
possible in the true Darkthrone spirit and to some degree they have actually
managed to recreate that magical atmosphere. As I just mentioned this album
does not offer very easy listening and although there are some very nice
moments the overall sound is a little too pale for them to be able to compete
fully with their Norwegian heroes. Samples from nice guys like James Mason,
Charles Manson and Boyd Rice doesn't help that much either... If you are a
fan of older Darkthrone you would probably want to check out this band because
they are a quality underground band but otherwise stay away from
them.
