REVIEW: Saga - Trust InsideOut Music, 2006
8/10
Saga - Trust - cover art With 30 years in existence and seventeen studio albums Saga is an institution in the world of progressive rock. Carrying such an impressive back catalogue it is a true challenge recording new music that will not disappoint the millions of fans gathered along the road. During the past ten years or so some fans have feared that the Canadian rock legends would never be able to reach the amazing quality of their early releases but I believe that "Trust" will silence most critics. Their 2006 release is perhaps their most progressive one since the glory days. From the intense sound effects of the opening track "That's As Far As I'll Go" to the passionate ballad "My Friend", Saga impresses throughout the entire album as both Sadler and Gilmour provides some of their best vocals ever. The interaction between guitars, vocals and keyboards creates a unique touch that is the Saga trademark. Despite the modern production there are elements present from every decade since the 70s here and "Trust" is more or less a result of 30 years of song writing. Fans of progressive AOR will be happy for sure. To sum it up in one single word - impressive. Stand-out tracks: "That's As Far As I'll Go", "Back To The Shadows", "You Were Right".
