REVIEW: Sahg - Sahg I Regain Records, 2006
7/10
Sahg - Sahg I - cover art Sahg is a band who does not let time pass by with their arms crossed in front of them. Having formed in 2004 it did not take long before the Swedish label Regain Records snatched these Norwegians. It is quite a strange band, as implied by the name I guess. Among the band members we can find people from Manngard and Audrey Horne (a band who were nominated for two national grammies this year) but also King ov Hell from the black metal veterans Gorgoroth. Sahg is like nothing you would ever expect from a Norwegian band but then again they are everything you would expect. "Sahg I" is a pitch black dive into the past that will cause every doom fan to make sure his Black Sabbath albums are still around. The band's musical influences are impossible not to grasp even after one single song but where Black Sabbath come off as crisp and tender, Sahg stand out as massive and oppressive. With more muscles behind every riff they will tear and tug at your soul until you can not recognize it any longer. Fans of old-school doom will not be disappointed, especially not if some of your favorite bands are called Black Sabbath, Kyuss and Pentagram. The spectrum of Norwegian metal is broadening. Far from groundbreaking but who cares. Let's doom.
