REVIEW: Saltus - Slavonic Pride Breath Of Night, 2001
6.5/10
Saltus - Slavonic Pride - cover art This cd starts out with a conventional black metal intro which unfortunately doesn't make much of a difference, then a beautiful guitar section and soon enough the blasphemous inferno breaks loose. It is not very common for a black metal band to display any notable musical talents but Saltus from Poland does. Even though the sound is rather thin due to a poor production it stands beyond doubt that these guys know that they're doing and they do it fairly well. For being a black metal album it is still dynamic and less monotonous than the average release. Saltus devote their music to the past centuries and ancient days when the law was ruled by Mother Nature herself. Slavonic pagan metal is the label they have given their music and that probably serves well as a brief description. This album contains a very intense blend of Nordic black metal but it is still fairly atmospheric and very melodic at times. If you are a fan of old-style raw black metal then I think you will be able to enjoy this release. Unfortunately there are several orchestral interludes on the album which aren't of very high interest to me.
