REVIEW: Samael - Ceremony Of Opposites Century Media, 1994
9.5/10
Samael - Ceremony Of Opposites - cover art Switzerland is a very small country but they have still given birth to several of the most unique and groundbreaking bands in the history of metal such as Celtic Frost, Coroner and, last but not least, Samael. Today the Swiss metal "scene" has lost its strength but Samael are still around, although they have relocated to the American continent. "Ceremony Of Opposites" is the third album from the band and it is in my opinion their best release so far. After this album they started using keyboards even more frequently. That is usually not a negative transformation for a band but their most creative and powerful work is to be found on this album. Their unique mix of black metal and industrial riffs together with their highly unusual song structures and wonderful drumming has made them one of the true innovators of modern metal. This album is actually actually contains some of the most impressive material that has come out of the extreme metal scene throughout the whole 1990's. If you don't mind a little rougher vocals and want to experience the true beauty of Samael's avantgardistic form of metal this is for you.
