REVIEW: Sanity In Death - Sanity In Death Hammermill Records, 2005
6.5/10
Sanity In Death - Sanity In Death - cover art Tucson, Arizona's Sanity in Death are the third band to be released on Hammermill Records, a small label out o' Utica, N'Yawk. The press release accompanying the album claim it to be for fans of Lamb of God, Pantera, and Testament. I like all of those bands as much as or even more than the next guy and while I think Sanity in Death have a lot of merit on their own, I don't think the three name-checked bands are really accurate. Sanity in Death is more of a Death Metal act than otherwise, though some definite Thrash moments are present on this, their debut effort. More often than not, 90% of The Black Dahlia Murder and 10% of Metallica's Ride the Lightning (particularly the clean guitar parts) are appropriate points of reference. The occasional clean vocal bit is tired, but what do you want from a debut? The band is still likely searching for "their sound." Regardless, this is more than a competent effort though the samples are a bit hackneyed at this point. The fact that a person responsible for such is included as an individual member of the band is a bit much. Give 'em a listen and tell 'em Tartarean Desire sentcha. This band could make a lot of noise if given the proper attention. Bonus round: a Pantera by way of Sacred Reich vibe, both circa-1991, is present on "Filter the Gray."
