This unbelievable release starts with a real doom killer track called “I long”:
Tormenting and tenacious like lava, sadness and longings are creeping out from the speakers, making you sad and griefing and only the cold shower that is running down your spine is vivid.
Sad doomy guitars lead you into a melancholic keyboard interlude, some spoken words can not tear you out from your thoughts and when the guitars/drums return with might, you will gonna feel the decidedness and hopelessness of a person who is gonna commiting suicide and then deep growls break the rest of you. Majestic tragedy far away from being cheesy.
The whole cd is a journey through different landscapes of sadness and grief. Cladded into varied doom metal, with emotional interludes, great melodies and male vocals from deep growls to clean vocals, the essence of dark emotions are presented in a mesmerising melancholic way. A very few times there are distant glimpses of early Lacrimas profundere at their times of La naissance d´un réve as well as of Anathema at their best times of doom. Saturnus are definitely an outstanding band and have their place among the gods of doom. Saturnus had faced several line changes and I hope this will be the final line, simply because every single member did a perfect job, especially vocalist Thomas A.G. Jensen (great vocals from clean vocals to growls), Anders Ro Nielsen (keyboard) and Tais Pedersen (lead guitar).
Fans of older Anathema, My dying bride and all who love melodic, melancholic doom metal on a high level will love this release. And those, who were never into doom should try it too, it is a must have. Songs like I long, Rain with me, Descending or To the dreams are outstanding tracks.
P.S. The strange name of the release refers to a novel by Paulo Coelho with the same title. D.S.
