REVIEW: Savatage - From The Gutter To The Stage Edel Records, 1996
10/10
Savatage - From The Gutter To The Stage - cover art This is the perfect compilation set for anyone who like hard rock or heavy metal. It contains the best of what Savatage has accomplished between 1981 and 1995 which is a lot to say the least. Almost every single track on these two discs is great in itself, from the band's first real hit "Sirens" to the amazing vocal performance on the complex "Chance" which took two weeks to record and one week to mix. Several of these tracks are among the best songs ever written. No matter what taste in music you have this album belongs in your record collection. Call it metal, call it hard rock, this is still one of the best albums to be released ever. Savatage were one of the first metal bands to bring orchestral arrangements into their songs and if you listen to the track "Mozart And Madness" you will realized that these guys are also very familiar with classical music. They are also one of very few quality bands who have been featured on MTV. Without a trace of doubt I can say that this is one of the best albums in my collection.
