It has been 10 years since Saxon released their live album "The Eagle Has Landed II" and now it is time for another live release but a more comprehensive one, this time spanning no less than 32 songs recorded on their tours in 2004 and 2005 in the cities of Stockholm, Kiel, Nuremberg, Fulda, Berlin, London and their Wacken Open Air performance (which was great by the way!). In today's world I can't see any reason for a band wanting to release a simple live album and I assume this is (at least mostly) the label's decision. For example Steamhammer held Sodom back from releasing another studio album since they did not feel that they had earned enough on their previous release yet. Anyway, I am sure some of you enjoy live releases more than I do but why not release a DVD instead? The atmosphere and energy of a Saxon live show can never be transferred onto a CD and while listening to these songs I only look forward to the follow-up to the great "Lionheart". Biff Byford and Paul Quinn, two individuals that I dearly admire, have worked hard to keep the flame of Saxon alive for 30 years (!) now and they deserve a better anniversary celebration than this. On the positive side of things this double disc is sold at the same price as a single CD. And, after all, it is close to 2 ½ hours of Saxon...
