Being one of the most prominent metal bands from their country the French Scarve now unleash their third full-length album "Irradiant". Their history began in 1994 when guitarist Patrick Martin joined forces with drummer Dirk Verbeuren. They were ispired by the more technical, experimental and unconventional death / thrash metal bands like Death, Coroner, Cynic and Atheist. Today you can still trace a little bit of this and that in their sound but "Irradiant" sounds much more modern. In fact, this album reminds me more of Swedish bands like Soilwork and Darkane than any of the previously mentioned influences. Scarve still found themselves a strong personal identity however and even though they do not bring us anything fundamentally new "Irradiant" still offers a nice and enjoyable experience for fans of extreme metal in general, especially if you're into the modern death / thrash scene. The instrumental skills are impressive, the production is crystal clear thanks to Daniel Bergstrand, Örjan Örnkloo and the Dug-Out Studio and the vocals are diverse and powerful. In short, Scarve will not fail to entertain. Guest appearances from Meshuggah's Fredrik Thordendal and Defleshed's Gustaf Jorde might give them some extra attention as well. A nice, solid album but don't expect any groundbreaking sounds if you decide to purchase it. The track "An Emptier Void" can be found in our audio section.
