Now that Repulse Records have called it quits
there are not many quality labels who carry the torch for brutal death / grind
but the American label Deepsend Records are quickly growing to hopefully
become the next leading force. Massachusetts based Scattered Remnants were one
of the bands on the label but they split up soon after the release of their
official debut album "Destined To Fail" in 1998. Now Deepsend Records are
releasing this 74 minute collection of old material from the band, including
their two demo cd's "Procreating The Masses" and "Inherent Perversion" as
well as their Repulse release. Starting out with the mandatory creepy intro
this album contains sixteen powerful tracks of brutal, somewhat doomy death
metal with ultra-guttural growling that should please fans of Suffocation and
Dying Fetus. This is a genre that is very difficult indeed since it is very
easy for bands to fall into the trap of making the same riffs over and over
again, resulting in a very slow, churning and monotonous sound. Fortunately
this never happens for Scattered Remnants who were one of the most underrated
extreme metal bands in the world. Unlike many other bands in their genre they
are highly skilled musicians and manage to deliver a tight, massive and
powerful sound that few others can live up to. Just listen to the beautiful
acoustic track "As The First Tear Of Blood Falls" or the sheer power of the
following "Vaginal Vomit". This is quality death / grind done the American
way.
