REVIEW: Seethings - Parallels Scarlet Records, 2003
7/10
Seethings - Parallels - cover art Behind the somewhat peculiar monicker Seethings hides an Uppsala based band fronted by vocalist Lawrence Mackrory who many of you probably already know from the debut album from Darkane. Today the band also feature the former Diabolical drummer Lars Söderberg on bass and they have recently signed a deal with the Italian label Scarlet Records who appreciate Swedish bands more than others it seems. This album will surely make people compare Seethings to mainstream giants like Deftones, Linkin Park and Staind. It is heavy melody driven modern rock with a massive groove, just the kind of music needed if you wish to cross over the metal only border into more commercial surroundings. Seethings definitely have the potential to reach very far but signing to Scarlet Records may be a mistake since the label has never dwelled in this genre before. No matter what, this is a solid release with a decent amount of variation which is performed by skilled and experienced musicians. It is rather conventional and lacks that little extra needed to reach the top but a good vocalist and well written songs makes this a release that should still be appreciated by most fans of the genre.
